EBBS supported Plenary Lecture at the 9th International Congress of the Polish Neuroscience Society, Warsaw, Poland, September 9-12, 2009.
Mark Tuszynski (University of California, Los Angeles, CA, USA)
Growth factor gene delivery for Alzheimer’s disease: From animal models to clinical trials
The Congress gathered 500 scientists from 39 countries, including 70 plenary and symposium speakers. The scientific program covered nine plenary lectures, 14 symposia, one workshop and three poster sessions. It was also the First FENS Featured Regional meeting, a new initiative of FENS to support national societies with the goal to strengthen the scientific program of their meetings and make them more international and vivid. The Polish Neuroscience Society won the slot at the FENS 2007 at Geneve, Switzerland.
EBBS contributed to the success of the Congress by supporting the invited lecture, given by Mark Tuszynski (Departments of Neurosciences, University of California San Diego). Tuszynski’s  talk reviewed the history and current status of growth factor gene delivery, in particular of NGF and BDNF genes, in Alzheimer’s Disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. The lecture was followed by a heated debate; the current  studies on the extended safety and tolerability of BDNF gene delivery to the brain in animal studies were discussed.
The programme of the meeting and abstracts, published in Acta Neurobiologiae Experimentalis http://www.ane.plhttp://www.ane.pl are available on-line at  http://www.ptbun.org.pl/http://www.ptbun.org.pl/.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to EBBS for its generous sponsorship.
