WORKSHOPS EBBS Workshops play an essential role in fulfilling the primary mission of our society -- that of preserving and promoting excellence in the behavioural and cognitive approach within the European neuroscience community. Listed below are the EBBS workshops held over the past years, attesting to the broad range of topics covered. Most of the proceedings of these workshops have been published, either as a special issue of a journal, or more recently, as part of a special series of Oxford University Press. A workshop is organised around a specific topic of interest to the behavioural neuroscience community and provides a forum for discussion of the latest research, evolving concepts and new methodologies related to a particular topic. The meeting usually lasts three days, with a limited number of invited speakers, to allow plenty of time for discussion. Participants are urged to present their work in the form of posters. A typical workshop has about 20 invited speakers and anywhere from 100-250 participants. Any member of EBBS may submit a proposal for a workshop to the EBBS Committee. The EBBS treasurer provides seed money of 3000 NGL; the remaining funding comes from registration fees and from money raised by the organiser(s). The EBBS Finance subcommittee can provide advice on funding opportunities (for support from the European Union: http://www.cordis.lu/improving/calls/hlsc199901.htm), which include industry, national and local governments of the host institution, or the host institution, itself. The Publication committee will assist in arranging publication of the proceedings. The continued success of these Workshops depends on the active contribution of the EBBS membership. The EBBS committee awaits your proposals for future Workshops.
